HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd has confirmed that a Hitachi/Alstom JV has been awarded the contracts to build high speed trains for the megaproject.
The contracts – worth around £2bn – will see the JV design, build and maintain a fleet of 54 high speed trains that will operate on High Speed 2 (HS2).
It follows a lengthy procurement process marred in controversy with HS2 Ltd hit with two legal challenges during the tendering stage.
