The successful delivery of two alternative cross-Channel power cables has taken on extra importance because of the UK government’s decision to spike plans for the 2Gw Aquind interconnector between France and the UK.
The project is not, however, the only proposed UK-France power link, with the potential for increased energy trading with France and the rest of Europe increasingly vital as energy generation moves towards greater reliance on renewable energy sources.
Adding more energy pressure is the expected rise in energy bills of nearly 50% – amounting to £600 a year for the average household – when the price cap is lifted in April.
